    My TVShootingStar Broadcasting, LLC

Most recently, the complete analog to digital conversion of WZMY-TV, ShootingStar Broadcasting, LLC; the Boston affilliate of My Network TV.

    WHDHWHDH-TV, Boston - Engineering
At WHDH-TV (NBC) I have been engaged to assist in the construction of a new SDI broadcast facility and infrastructure including automated multichannel HDTV compatible master control center. The facility is now on line and the three year project, for which I was hired, has ended.

WGBHDirector of Engineering - WGBH, PBS Educational Foundation, Boston, MA
WGBH is the Flagship Station of the Public Broadcasting System (PBS). The Boston facilities are used to produce over 35% of the PBS prime time program schedule to an estimated fifty million viewers each week. As Director of Engineering, my responsibility was to guide the Foundation's strategic planning and lead the engineering staff through the "Digital Transition" while setting an example that other PBS member stations may follow. Many PBS stations look to WGBH engineering for recommendations to guide their facility design and equipment expenditures.

As director of engineering at WGBH my accomplishments included: converting the PBS network analog production control room to 601 digital in under three months, (Television Broadcast Magazine, feature article, October, 2000 p. 59), installation of a Harris Automation Solution's system in a multichannel master control, purchase of a Platinum Solid State VHF transmitter, purchase and installation of two UHF transmitters along with transmission line and a broadband UHF antenna. Implementing programs resulting in overall changes in the engineering philosophy of the Foundation and adding a total of 10 program streams to Master Control. My responsibilities also included writing federal grant applications, performing staff reviews and maintaining collaborative relationships with other departments within the Foundation in order to provide necessary technical guidance to meet their needs through the digital broadcast transition era. The WGBH Educational Foundation has more than 1200 employees at its Boston facility. I was asked to participate in converting WHDH-TV, NBC, Boston to a digital infrastructure. After two years, I resigned my position at WGBH and began the project at WHDH.

DEMERS BROADCAST CONSULTANTS, (DBC) - Owner
The opportunity to provide project management and consulting services to broadcasters at the regional, national and international level as well as to broadcast computer equipment, satellite manufacturers and the cable industry was an exciting and challenging experience. Clients such as NBC, GE Americom, SONY SIC, Thomson Broadcast, Digital Equipment Corporation and WHDH-TV all expressed their satisfaction and confidence in DBC and my ability to provide quality project direction and support. DBC also provided broadcast GUI interface design, market research, workflow analysis, product planning and software recommendations for broadcast server and computer industries as well as major market broadcasters.

The Christian Science Monitor - Engineering Manager
During start-up of The Monitor Channel I reviewed over fifteen hundred resumes and interviewed two hundred-fifty applicants; doubling the size of the technical staff. Then, supervised daily broadcast operations, including seventy-five technicians, senior engineers and crew chiefs; providing performance reviews and training. When the Christian Science Monitor decided to discontinue television operations, my responsibilities included downsizing the cable facilities five studio, analog/digital international operation to a single TV studio. Ultimately, determining a price for the facility, finding a buyer and selling the multi-million dollar television operation. The project was completed ahead of schedule. I then began the independent consulting services of Demers Broadcast Consultant's.

    WCVBWCVB-TV Boston, MA, - Maintenance/VT Crew Chief
My fifteen years with WCVB was a time of growth and learning. In return, I was asked to share my technical knowledge with the maintenance and operations staff, in the form of acclimating new technicians as well as training seasoned engineers on the latest technology. This included interfacing a new computer controlled tape library management system with Master Control, Traffic and "on air" operations. The transition to this new technology and "on air" operation was flawless.

WGBHWGBH -TV. Boston - Engineer / Senior Editor
Prior to returning to WGBH as their Director of Engineering, I was assigned as their first Senior Editor. I personally edited and provided quality control for all PBS post productions. The productions included NOVA, Julia Child, This Old House, Evening At Pops, ZOOM and Masterpiece Theatre, to name a few. I also participated in the design, fabrication and training of their first computer-controlled post-production edit suite for all PBS programs produced by the WGBH Educational Foundation.

    VIDEOCOMVIDEOCOM, Inc., - Chief Engineer
When a partnership of Boston broadcasters were formulating New England's first commercial broadcast production house, I was contacted to assume the responsibilities of "start-up", construction and day-to-day commercial production/post production operation. My duties included facility design, operating layout design, construction supervision as well as interviewing and hiring technical/production staff. Also, maintaining technical equipment and network NTSC standards throughout all studio and location facilities.
